Butre Education & Health Cooperative

The Butre Education & Health Cooperative (BEHC) was founded by Julie Ghostlaw and Brendan Rosen in 2010 as a community project that will address and tackle public health and education issues in the coastal village of Butre in the Western Region of Ghana. It is a three-pronged initiative focusing on malaria awareness and prevention, the improvement of sanitation, and reproductive health peer education and a special focus on accessibility politics.

Global Studies Summer Fellowship Recipient

On April 1, 2010, Julie Ghostlaw, co-founder of BEHC, was notified by Mount Holyoke College's McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives that she has been awarded the 2010 Global Studies Summer Fellowship in the amount of $1,300.00 to undertake research in Butre, Ghana. According to the Universal Application Funding Committee, it received a record number of applications this year. In receiving this award, Julie will be presenting her research findings to the MHC Community at the LEAP Conference in the Fall of 2010.
